ECOCITRUS
Created in 1994 in Montenegro in the Rio Grande do Sul region in the south of the country by 15 small farmers, this cooperative has become a reference in organic agriculture and solidarity economy.
It now has 110 members, 49 social workers and ten employees, farms 600 hectares and markets fruit juices, essential oils and compost for an annual turnover of 3.5 million US dollars.
Ecocitrus’ role goes beyond its own structure to include the 4,000 local families it helps to maintain in the region through development programmes, including vocational training.
